Meditation as a way to connect to your Inner Child

Writer: Sarah SmithSarah Smith

How do you feel when you have to make an important decision in your life? Do you feel anxious and stressed out, unsure of what’s best? Do you often find yourself holding grudges against people who have wronged you in the past? If you’ve ever experienced any of these, it’s highly likely that you’re disconnected from your inner child. Meditation can help with this, as it allows you to revisit your inner child and connect with them in the present moment, rather than letting the past weigh so heavily on your mind and take over your life. Meditation will help you integrate your inner child with your adult self to help you be more at peace and present with yourself.

Why is meditation important?

It is no secret that meditation has been shown to help people with a variety of mental health problems, and in this case, it can be used as a way to connect with your inner child. Meditation can provide you with the opportunity to think through some of the difficult times in life that have led you down a path of disconnection. Meditation provides an opportunity for self-compassion and self-love which will allow you time to decompress and take care of yourself in new ways. The following are some tips on how meditation can help you reconnect with your inner child:

1) Think of meditation as a time when you are talking back to your inner child.

2) Meditation offers us a place where we are able to give ourselves permission to indulge in our deepest desires without fear of judgment or rejection.

3) Meditation also provides a safe space where we can communicate with parts of ourselves that we may not always like or understand.

4) What would make your inner child happy?

5) You need to know what makes your inner child happy because you want them to feel safe, loved, and secure so they can heal from all the things they've had happen during their life.

6) They need validation from someone who understands them unconditionally.

These are all great to discuss with a good friend or a therapist.

How Often Should I meditate?

The meditation practice is a personal choice, and you may find that it varies in frequency. Some people meditate every day or close to daily. Others find they can be more selective with their practice, meditating as needed when they're feeling stressed or out of balance. Still, others will choose not to meditate at all. The key is finding the right amount of meditation that works best for you and your needs - there's no one-size-fits-all approach here.

So how often should you practice? If you're new to meditation, try starting with three times a week, then gradually increase your frequency as desired. If this feels like too much commitment, start by practicing once a week and see if you can work up from there if desired. The key is to make it fun and enjoyable, so you are able to sustain a long-term consistent practice

Inner child healing is a process that can be life-changing and lead to a more joyful and happy life. All of us have an inner child, the part of our personality that we had before we developed the coping mechanisms and defense mechanisms of adulthood.
