Over the years, we’ve all been hurt in one way or another, whether it was during childhood or adulthood. This trauma can manifest as addiction and anxiety, among other things. Fortunately, there are ways to heal this pain, including inner child healing therapy (ICT). Inner child work recognizes that our behavior as adults stems from how we were treated when we were children. Inner child work focuses on meeting those needs now by taking care of ourselves instead of depending on others for love and support.

What is Inner Child Work?

Childhood neglect is when you weren't given all the care, love, and attention you needed as a child. When a child experiences neglect in childhood they often don't grow up learning how to adequately take care of themselves. Shadow work is using therapy, healing methods such as meditation or hypnosis, or creative outlets like writing or art to deal with these feelings. This process can help overcome any negative effects that were once caused by childhood neglect. Inner child healing is one way to remedy these past damages in order to live an abundant life of love today.

Reasons why Inner Child Work is important.

Childhood neglect can have deep implications that last a lifetime. And while you can't go back in time to undo the past, it is possible to create space for yourself in your adult life to heal from the scars of growing up. Inner child healing involves diving into a place where we weren't cared for as children--the part of us that's been forgotten, ignored, or dismissed. Shadow work is the active process of transforming your shadows so they no longer have power over you.

It starts with acknowledging that there's more than meets the eye when it comes to our struggles--sometimes an issue isn't just about one thing but many complex layers we can uncover through intuitive exploration.

How to heal your inner child

Inner child work, like any type of inner work, involves creating a space where your subconscious is allowed to take the lead, an idea that can be both difficult and liberating. Through meditative practices, shadow work, hypnosis, or traditional therapy, the inner child can be validated and healed. The inner child is the part of you that has retained all the feelings, thoughts, memories, and beliefs from childhood. Our society is characterized by a culture of blame and guilt which too often forces children to suppress or deny these feelings. This causes dysfunction in adulthood that can negatively impact self-esteem, emotional health, relationships with others, and even physical health. The practices of shadow work provide a way for people to heal their inner children in order to live healthier lives with less negativity influencing them from within.
